"Well what a lovely stay we had, checked into the White Horse after visiting York, we were given the warmest welcome by John and Dawn. After we were settled into our lovely room Rose room) which was really comfortable and cosy, especially the super...king bed, we wondered down to the bar and restaurant for an evening meal. Again we were greeted by the friendly hosts and even the regulars made us feel welcome. Food was not a disappointment either yummy). Amazing nights sleep followed and then a great breakfast. Thanks again John and Dawn could not fault a thing."

"I sat in and had a vegan breakfast (served to 3 o'clock) that came with a small glass of orange juice. very tasty, easy to eat and the service was fantastic, the staff was friendly. they also allow dogs if they want to fall in the middle way."

"Absolutely abysmal. Waited 2 hours for our food. We had a reservation at 7pm and didn't get our drinks ordered until half 7. They had ran out of a lot of drinks and frequently forgot how many we had ordered. After waiting an hour and a half for food, despite being the only ones in there bar two over small tables, we were told that a mac and cheese couldn't be made as there was no pasta so a member of our party was left without a meal. She has waited 2 hours to be told she couldn't eat at a restaurant. A vegan meal came with cheese. I asked the manager if it was vegan cheese and she said yes but when the chef was asked he kicked off because it didn't say vegan on the order slip. If I had eaten that meal I would have been in hospital. I had to wait so long for a replacement for that I asked for it to be put in a takeaway box. The drinks that were made were not made to a high quality and we had to ask for them to be redone properly. They only had about 3 songs on repeat so eventually after listening to the same thing about 20 times over we asked them to just turn the music off. The food that was provided was very poor and overpriced. They did give us a few things on the house because of how much they'd f ed up but I wouldn't have paid at all if I had been on my own. The bill was just short of £200 but I wouldn't have paid £20 for it. This place is absolutely dreadful. Do not waste your time there."

"We came to sit outside always a good spot for a drink before a meal but it was too windy. Sat inside instead noisy locals all talking at once! Ordered food and move to table noise level was fine there! C 'est la vie. Always liked the ambience in the pub. Had three starters all of which were very good 2 from the specials board. For mains we chose two smoked brisket burger, a fish pie and salmon. The brisket burgers were poor having been sat around and reheated leaving the burger part shrunken and dry while the smoked brisket element was definitely smoky but again it was very dry and unappetising. Accompanied by a few chips, a couple of onion rings and a bun, at £15 this was poor value for money; an option from the specials board should be 'signature dish ' quality this was not. The other two mains were enjoyed. Shame that this experience tends to lead me to query the quality of the other Provinance Inns. Excellent service from all of the staff."

"Went to the Rose and Crown for Sunday dinner today without a reservation and the landlord bent over backwards to fit us in. The staff were really friendly and the food was fantastic and plentiful. Compliments to the chef!!"
