At a quaint rural pub in Devon, patrons experience a mix of delight and disappointment. While some rave about the warm atmosphere, generous portion sizes, and nostalgic charm, others lament issues like cleanliness, stale food, and unwelcoming service from the owners. The traditional decor, featuring sticky tables and an outdated feel, contrasts sharply with the positive feedback on flavorful homemade desserts and friendly staff members. Despite the varied experiences, many agree on the pub's potential as a cozy retreat, offering honest food and drinks that appeal to those seeking a casual dining experience away from trendy establishments.

A super evening with the family. meal times were hot and tasty. even more so that the cheesecake, chocolate brownie and the sticky toffee pudding special were a real hit all served with ice cream. (home made.) atmosphere great and service could not. drinks were cold and most welcome after a long day out and over. will go back there.

It was a pleasure to visit a traditional, charming pub that felt like a blast from the past! The food was honest, fresh, and delicious, a refreshing change from the standard chains and trendy gastropubs. Locals gathered at the bar to enjoy a peaceful pint, served by a lovely young woman. Don't pay too much mind to some of the negative reviews - this old-fashioned and traditional pub is in Devon, not Chelsea!

We had a wonderful experience at a charming rural pub in Devon where we were warmly welcomed, including our dog. The traditional pub atmosphere and the varied menu, which includes vegetarian options, made for a great dining experience. The portion sizes were generous and the chips were especially delicious. We enjoyed chatting with some of the regulars and staff members.

We found this restaurant through Google and the rating was just okay. We wish we had read the reviews here beforehand. There were five of us with disappointing experiences. We think we may have had the same table as a previous commenter (sticky) and possibly the same chips (stale). The wine, beer, and coke were all subpar, the place was dirty, and the food was tasteless. Despite being hungry, we stayed after being told the chef was out. It turns out we should have followed our instincts. As my son put it, the microwave should be on salary because we could hear it go off and our hearts sank.

Booked a table for 5 for sat evening, arrived to an almost empty pub ordered 2 beers and 3 soft drinks and was told we could sit anywhere. Sat down at a very sticky table in a very plain dreary room and when the drinks...arrived we asked for menus. The reply was Well we don't really do menus, we have a board you pick from in the bar area After looking at the board and the surroundings we thought it better to move on. I asked to pay for the drinks, 2 beers and 3 soft drinks, £18.70p!!!! Ridiculous! It needs a good dose of refurbishment.
