Komachi - Surry Hills

I had some time before my check-in and didn't want to store my luggage, so I decided to try a nearby restaurant. I've tried ramen from various places around the world – Japan, NY, LA, etc. In comparison to Sydney's ramen scene, this place may not be as renowned as Ippudo or Yasaka, but I was aware of that going in. Having had some disappointing ramen in the past, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the ramen here. The broth was lighter than my preference but still had the traditional shoyu ramen flavor. The generous portion of chashu was a plus, and the noodles were cooked to my liking. I wasn't a fan of the cabbage in the ramen and felt that it could have used some naruto and thicker seaweed. Overall, I found this restaurant to be a great option and would be happy to come back for a quick ramen or sushi meal.

When it comes to lunch, the price is a bit higher than expected, around $5 more. They don't have tonkotsu ramen, only miso. The ramen only has vegetables and seaweed, which was fine for me but might not be enough for others. The soup is flavorful though. The gyoza was deep fried, not pan fried, which I didn't enjoy much. The soft shell crab and takoyaki were decent. Overall, it's a good option for a quick lunch.

If you have ever walked down Cleveland Street, you may have come across Komachi Japanese Restaurant. It stands out with its front windows covered in photos of customers who have conquered their 1 kilo ramen challenge. Despite the 34 success stories on the wall, we were not daring enough to take on the challenge ourselves.

Very good place to have ramen in Sydney , I pop in last week on Monday with my girlfriend , love pork ramen ...!! It's amazing ... I recommend you guys should visit this place at least once ...!!

Years ago I'd come here for lunch weekly. Recently visited the place again but will not be returning. The original Japanese owners have since left, and the food now reflects that.
