We came for our anniversary dinner, and had absolutely the best meal of our lives. Everything was flawlessly executed. The service was professional, fast, and accommodating, despite a completely full room. If we had to recommend just one menu item, it would be the tuna crudo. So creative and beautiful. It was a perfect start to a perfect meal. View all feedback.
What Jimmy G 2nd doesn't like about Merchant Tavern:
Brunch was just about ok. Meal was quite messy to eat and a little bland for the price. For a Raymond's brand I thought it would be better. Service was sub par very little interaction...server did not seem like she wanted to be there. No cappuccino as machine was broken. Overall, not what we were expecting for the price. I had another amazing meal at this restaurant last night. I started with oysters, then had the cod special which melted in my mouth, followed by the pork belly and peas pudding which had incredible flavor. For dessert, I tried the vinegar pie with a side of Tetley tea ice cream - it was delicious! I was dining with a group of 7 and every plate was completely empty by the end of the meal. The service was exceptional and the staff was very knowledgeable about the menu.
My experience at The Merchant Tavern was absolutely incredible. The restaurant was recommended to us by a culinary chef and friend, Simon Dunn. Despite the tourist map providing the wrong address, we persevered and finally found it. We were so happy that we did! We spent a few hours in the afternoon at the bar, where the attentive young servers Jeremy and Jake kept us entertained. The kitchen was a sight to behold, and as a chef myself, I enjoyed watching the staff prepare for the evening service in the open kitchen. They worked seamlessly and efficiently, like a well-orchestrated symphony. The charcuterie platter with homemade mustard, pickles, and pate was delicious, as were the honey lime wings. The local beer selection was exceptional as well. I highly recommend The Merchant Tavern.
My husband and I were looking for a nice place for dinner on our last night in Newfoundland, and this restaurant exceeded our expectations. We had a fantastic waitress who was friendly and offered great recommendations on the best dishes. The atmosphere was just right - not too loud but still busy and lively. And the food was absolutely delicious! We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to try unique dishes and enjoy a great atmosphere.
Love this place. Been there 4 times now and have been wowed each time. We love the food, the atmosphere and staff. We try to sit at the raw bar so we can watch the exciting dynamic amongst the chefs in the kitchen. Last night we visited and I had the best burger I’ve ever had in my life (Peanut Butter Burger). Jeremy Charles came over to speak to us. He’s a great guy! Congrats to Jeremy and his team for running such an amazing establishment in our beautiful city.
We celebrated my sister's birthday there last night. It was our first time there but definitely won't be our last!! We were seated at the raw bar which turned out to be amazing and a completely different restaurant experience, we loved watching the chefs prepare all the food!! The staff were awesome as was our entire meal, The Merchant did not disappoint!! We'll be back forsure looking forward to our return visit
