Monty's Gastropub - St. Catharines

Visited with friends last week. Had their daily special which was fresh home made pizza and wontons. Excellent! Servers were friendly and efficient. Would definitely visit again.

Went for pizza and wings, wanted to try another North end place instead of our old reliable Bugsys. Will go back to our regular place next time. The food wasn't bad, pizza had good toppings (real sausage), but cheap salty cheese. Pretty sure the onion rings were frozen. Wings were average size, nothing fancy just Red Hot for a sauce (try some butter with that sauce maybe, chef...). Service was ok, the girls were polite and efficient but not what you would call friendly. With 2 draft beers, onion rings, 8 slice pizza (smallish) and 2 pounds wings, was $75 with tip. I hear the place is packed and a lot of fun on music nights, but on a Thursday for dinner it was quiet, only a few tables.

The reviews were not too bad, and the place advertises itself as having some of the best - if not the best - fish and chips in St. Catharines, so we stopped off at Monty's while in St. Catharines. There was only one other car in the parking lot - and that belonged to our dining partners - so OK, we were early for dinner. And yet, by the time our meal was over, still only the one table, so not sure what that says. And as for those fish and chips; not bad, but sure wouldn't go out of my way for them again.

Was pleasantly surprised by the food. It was a last minute decision so had no idea of what it was going to be like. Could use a bit of a facelift on the decor. Would definitely recommend
