"We booked the Martha room, and a dinner reservation for the Saturday evening of our stay. We chose it for the 2 person whirlpool tub and adequate sized (queen) bed in the room. Having whirlpool tubs in the rooms might suggest that its a luxury hotel , and if you go into it expecting that, you might be disappointed. This is a set of owner run buildings with a unique and interesting style. I wouldn 't call it second rate by any means, but this is more a B&B than a 'hotel . It has quirks. The room was in good condition, and the queen bed was comfortable. The whirlpool was pretty nice, but seemed to get cold faster than we expected (meaningless info really). The bathroom looked pretty standard when we arrived, but we discovered the window is stuck open and the winding mechanism on it had been broken. So we kept the bathroom door closed during our visit. The shower was expectedly small for a cape rental, and the shower head wasn’t adjustable. Being a shorter gal, this made it difficult to shower without getting water in my eyes or to rinse off comfortably. Also, the shower kind of smelled like vomit, but was probably just soap scum or needed a cleaning (not that it was dirty, it looked fine). As an old house, there wasn’t much insulation or sound buffering between rooms, so having courteous neighbors across the hall can make or break a stay there. Our neighbors had rented several rooms and left their doors open talking loudly back and forth between them in the hallways almost all of the weekend, during the day. Thankfully they were quiet at night. There’s really nothing to be done about it, that’s just the chance you run staying in that building or on that floor at least. Additionally, the heating/cooling system were pretty slow acting in our room. For most of the time that we were there and not in the tub, it was too cold for my liking. We turned the heat up in the morning, and by nighttime it would have warmed up (when we actually wanted it cooler). No big deal, just a little annoying. What I can say for the painted lady is that it has a lot of personality, and the complimentary breakfast pastries were pretty good. Yogurt, bananas, cold cereal, hard boiled eggs and toast/bagels were also offered. Nothing hot, besides coffee. Standard complimentary breakfast. Friday evening, We were tired and didn’t want to travel out to have dinner, so we easily changed our dinner reservation at the bistro to that night. I can’t say enough good things about it. Our service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the former church turned bistro was beautiful, with ornate wood carvings, high ceilings, stained glass windows and a warm, quiet ambience. As a vegan often finding myself asking for menu accommodations at restaurants, I really appreciated the service and experience of dining there. Our waitor was ready for me when we arrived and told me what they could offer. It took some time to get our meals, but it didn’t seem overly so. We would both gladly stay at the Belfry again, but maybe in another room, or different building on the property. Other things to know when booking the Martha room: there is no mini fridge in the room, it is in the hallway and shared with other guests staying on that floor. There is no coffeemaker in the room, but there is a Keurig in the hall. We weren’t sure if there would be one, so we brought our own. The wifi is unreliable. You will be given a password for the wifi at check in, and it will look like you’re connected to the internet, but the pages will never load. Although the house is old, the plumbing was pretty good and the water in the shower never turned cold or lacked in pressure as is the case with a lot of old New England houses. There is plenty of room for your toiletries on bathroom shelves outside of the shower, and plenty of room for clothes in the closet and large bureau."
