"Visited during Goth Weekend and requested a coffee and a pint, to which the young staff member laughed- “we don’t do hot drinks” he smirked. No apology or excuse, just an abrupt “what do you want?” Several women at the table next to us left because there was no coffee so I bravely asked another older member of staff if their was any hot drinks, he too was short in his response- “no!” Our food was good, fresh meat although the frozen veg was a let down. We visit the town several times a year but won’t be revisiting The Dolphin."

"A beautiful and quiet art room and café where you feel comfortable in the knowledge of veganism is not treated with contempt. After a very long walk we had served a well-earned Americano with one side hot soy milk in a quirky jug. A short look at the menu confirmed decent vegan options such as soup including sweet potatoes, coconut, ginger and chili, a few sandwiches and a ciabatta. The peanut and apple sandwich was a fascinating combination. I give him today a strong 3 based on a favorable experience. Very sharp to return in the near future for food."

"Superb! This cosy Bistro is world class, without a doubt one of the best meals I've had in Whitby or in fact many destinations. 2 or 3 courses on offer. Enough variety to suit most palates the menu was seasonal and felt super fresh. I course 2 courses, the Duck confit and the Belly of pork and both exceeded expectations, the other half has the Salt cod croquettes and chicken which he thourily enjoyed, a lovely reasonably priced white rioja finishing it off. The staff were warm and friendly without being intrusive, a credit! Definitely a place for a romantic meal or a cosy meal with friends. We hope to visit again soon."

"My Husband and myself stayed in the old dispensary last night for our first valentines as Mr Mrs. Absolutely beautiful place. Immaculately clean. Flowers in the kitchen and little red love heart chocolates on the pillows.. Lovely gesture. Only disappointment was nobody to welcome us when we arrived at 3.50. The bistro was closed and there was no one about to let us in, tell or show us where we were staying. We had to ring a phone number a couple of times before we got through, to be directed by phone to the old dispensery. It would have been nice to be greeted by the owners. Customer service in the bistro at breakfast could do with improving, the girl took our order, but didn't bring our juice or tea and we had to ask for it again when our breakfast came. Other to that it is a beautiful place to stay. We will definitely be returning to the old dispensary"
