"This restaurant has a super cozy and welcoming atmosphere. You feel like getting in a typical ancient Prussian inn in the heart of the old city of Rostock. The restaurant is divided into 3 areas: the counter with a handful of tables in front of...the window, a small outdoor patio in the backyard and a larger area in the basement. Even this last area of the restaurant is very nice. It is well lit with spotlights that highlight the beautiful red bricks of the vaulted ceiling, and a few flashes of flickering candle. Lovely atmosphere, try it! I went here to try some genuine German recipe. I 'm not an expert in this cuisine so I can not tell if the dishes strictly followed the tradition. However the result was excellent. I ordered a Klassisch zubereiteter Kalbstafelspitz in Meerrettichsoße, Wurzelgemüse und Bouillonkartoffeln (Classically prepared veal in horseradish sauce, root vegetables and bouillon potatoes). It was yummy. The soft flesh was melting in my mouth and was accompanied by the delicious sauce that praised the flavor. I drank a Rostocker Pils. Finally I also ordered a typical regional dessert: Mecklenburger Kirschgrütze. A simple, light and fresh dessert. Referring to some previous reviews I noticed that some customer complained that the restaurant hadn 't a menu in English and the staff did not speak a language other than German. Honestly I have a limited knowledge of German and yet I hadn 't any problem, nor to read the menu with the Google Translate, nor to communicate with the staff, very friendly and always smiling. I felt welcome. Travelers do not be lazy! Use your curiosity, your wits and tools that technology provides you with! You 'll be rewarded with an excellent dish. And maybe if you get something slightly different from what you expected, then smile! It is an opportunity to experience something new and learn a little bit of a different culture. Do not be the dumb tourist who gets surprised if in Germany the only language that is spoken is German! Just to conclude try this restaurant. Average prices but good quality."

"We found this place while mooching round the older parts of Rostock and we were warmly welcomed by the smashing barman/waiter. You simply must go upstairs and take a photo from the gallery of this pub cum ship..amazing. The place is full of cosy corners...all for yourself where you can enjoy a beer and a bite. Very traditional small menu and excellent Rostock beer. Try the dunkel! Loved it."

"Friendly and helpful staff. Nice food had their “the best of germany” which is mainly schnitzel with wedges and steamed broccoli and it was delicious). They have varied menu with plenty of healthier choices than mine. Decent prices for the big portions!"

"We could get a table on a busy evening. at the edge of the canal we enjoyed some really good gamberoni in olive oil and garlic and then baked cod, what you want more. if they plan a visit at the weekend, they will."

"Man sitzt wirklich sehr schön, wenn man einen Platz draußen an der Wasserseite hat. Spontan für 2 Personen um 19:00 am Sonnabend kein Problem einen Tisch zu bekommen. Der Service war recht fix und alles sah ganz vernünftig aus. Allerdings waren die Vorspeisen nicht frisch sondern aus der Dose oder aus dem Glas (gefüllte Weinblätter waren trocken, Piperakia waren eingelegt und aufgebraten). Das Fleisch im Hauptgang war gut zubereitet, aber sehr würzig, alle Beilagen ebenso und das Tsatziki nichts Besonderes leider. Die Kräuterbutter für das Fleisch war noch tiefgefroren. Wenn man also auf Empfehlung das Restaurant besucht und mehr als nur touristenfreundlichen Standard erwartet, bleibt man enttäuscht."

"In a rather boring and quiet part of the harbour area we found this little jewel of a fish restaurant. they have a huge menu with many own specialties. beautiful wine card. the place is very full, so absolutely reserve a table."
