"These guys just came to Open Table and I researched Yelp reviews because there were so few. I have to say this was one of the best Indian restaurants I was on a block of Grand Avenue to which I rarely go. We had two dishes, but I have to warn you. Intermediate Spice on Prawn Karahi was still noticeable. I love it like that, but I wondered if I actually ordered what would have happened. The shrimps were very delicate and fresh. The Madras Chicken was also EXCELLENT. We ordered a bottle of wine, completely fair and literally from there with remains that were great the next day. From the hook Naan; the plane goes with everything.... I'll say the singing music was a little weird at dinner, but the food? Out of the hook. Ambience? Many families and take people out. I wouldn't call it romantic, but reasonably expensive, plentiful food and very pleasant. If they stands vs. large tables with glass plates, it would be a little more intimate, but I think that 's not traditional."

"I am not sure why all the poor reviews. we love our neighborhood indian place and have been coming here for at least 15 years! the butter chicken is the best, and their tandoori is also amazing. the quality is great, and most important of all is that the food has always been consistent. love this place!"

"My wife and I walked by this restaurant late afternoon, and was attracted by how clean and cosy it looked. So we stopped by for chai tea, and ended up ordering samosa with garbanzo beans too. The chai was piping hot—the way we like it. The samosas were beautifully presented, and delicious too. The friendly service made it a great experience for us. We’ve made a mental note to come back for a main meal one day."

"I ordered the Mix Vegi Tikka Masala a few days ago, and it was outstanding. Very delicious. Highly recommend it.Vegetarian options: Not a lot, but more than a few vegetarian options. I also ordered rice to go along with the Tikka Masala, as well as Garlic Naan, which also were very good."

"4.5 Stars! I ordered lamb kabobs and a side of basmati rice for takeout. It cost about $20 and included a small salad with a yummy ginger type dressing. The meal was totally delicious. The meat was a bit spicy, so do know that. The portion size was great. I even had some leftover. I would definitely eat here again."

"This might be my new favorite restaurants, hands down. I've always been a huge fan of Indian food, and I struggled finding solid restaurants in or around Berkeley UNTIL I stumbled across Khana Peena. Just a few blocks down from the Rockridge BART station, this quaint restaurant is so warm and cozy, with fantastic service. Immediately was happily greeted when I walked in and taken to a table. Everyone who worked there very kind, courteous, and gentle. Not to mention, this was some of the best Indian food I've had around Berkeley. One thing I really love about the dinner platter in particular is the VARIETY, not only do you get the main course, but you get rice, AND naan, AND lentils, AND grilled vegetables. It's quite fantastic and you can't get anything like this anywhere else near Berkeley/Oakland! I'll be back."
