"Lunchtime place to go love the handmade pies my favourite is the mushy pea and mince closely followed by their cottage pie. I often take one home for my neighbours as they are an older couple they add veg and have them as lunch or dinner. Recommended"

"Just called in to get something to eat I had my small well trained dog with me and had noted that a Google review by new owners said they are dog friendly. (see below). On entering I was immediately ordered out of the pub in a very unfriendly verging on aggressive manner. I tryed to discuss the issue and said that I had checked online the owner stated the pub was dog friendly. The person just said that they would be shut down by Environmental health if a dog was allowed on the premises, she then ordered me to leave immediately as she walked off into the back. My experience indicates that this place is not very friendly and worse they are not aware of there legal rights and regulations. Obviously businesses can decide not to allow dogs but if they do they should not put on a public forum that they are dog friendly. I have put details of the legal position below. Dogs in pubs, restaurants and cafes There is no law or any health and safety regulations that ban dogs from being in premises where food and drink is served or sold; however they must not enter areas where food is prepared, handled or stored, for example the kitchen. It’s up to the owner of establishments that serve food and drink whether they’d like to welcome dogs to join in the fun or not. Law: Food Hygiene Regulations 2013, under EU Regulation (EC) 852/2004, Annex II"

"Nice place with great food. We had 16 in our party and they did a great job of getting all the food out at the same time. Attentive staff without being annoying. Everyone ate well and not an empty glass to be seen."

"The menu at The Cherry Tree read extremely well so expectations ran high for a good evening’s dining, sadly the food was rather average and for the prices charged offered poor value. The service was a tad haphazard and uninformed; the waitress that took our initial order didn’t know that the smoked haddock fish cake actually came with French fries, so the side order of ‘handcut’ chips wasn’t really necessary. For starters the salt cod fritters were in fact fish cakes and I had I realised this I wouldn’t have ordered them. They were rather nondescript and a tad bland. My guest ordered the puff pastry tart of caramelised onions goat’s cheese which was rather good. The puff pastry was light and crisp and the onion marmalade was rich and dark. For mains the order was for the smoked haddock fishcakes, buttered spinach grain mustard sauce and grilled plaice served with brown shrimps. The plaice was cooked to perfection but was somewhat let down by the three overcooked new potatoes served skins-on. The smoked haddock fish cakes were in fact a single, huge fish cake which sat rather uncomfortably in the large bowl it was served in. The fish cake was slightly overcooked, was far too big and stodgy. The side order of ‘handcut’ chips was extremely disappointing; for handcut chips read potato wedges which were not at all chiplike. I doubt very much that these were fried to order, they had all the hallmarks of the dreaded baked or oven chip having spent all or part of their existence in an oven.Deserts were thankfully quite excellent. I had the crème brûlée and my guest ordered baked Alaska with stem ginger ice cream champagne rhubarb. The crème brûlée was as good as I have had anywhere, a luscious velvety unsweetened custard with a very generous caramelised sugar crust. The baked Alaska and ginger ice cream was simply superb and I would unreservedly congratulate the desert chef on their efforts. The interior of The Cherry Tree is modern and has a light and airy feel that nicely preserves an intimate atmosphere; however the atmosphere was rudely shattered by some of the worst piano tinkling that I have heard in a long while. The endless medley of indistinguishable tunes, all played just a tad too loudly added absolutely nothing to the dining experience. I’ll give The Cherry Tree another chance soon, as I really enjoyed the deserts and maybe they were having an off-day in the kitchen."
