"Great place to take visitors as the cafe holds its own with the interesting location. On a clear day it's a wonderful view of church spires, autumn colour etc. You can organise a goal tour from here; during the Castlemaine State Festival the gaol cells are given over to artists as little studio and display locales, the best way I have ever seen it used.The cafe always does great coffee, some alternative gluten free baking is very good but wonderful looking cakes have often been a bit dry.Chicken leek pie always delicious, as are vego combinations that are tasty, interesting, and good for you.Prices are very reasonable for both food and good local wines.It's cosy throughout the rooms in winter, you could book a private room. On gorgeous days you would only want to be in the courtyard smiling at the world."

"My husband & I visited this Fish & Chip shop, after it being recommended by locals & another visitor. There was a bit of a wait for our order, due to the amount of people, but it was well worth it. The fish pieces (Flake) were large & we couldn't finish the chips & we got the minimum amount!"

"Castlemaine is a large city that is hardly a city, so this fine Thai restaurant is a blessing for the city. it is a trifle unusual to find a good Thai restaurant in a city this size, especcially one that serves exxcellent food. . I would recommend naam pla thai, I have eaten several times and eating was always full of taste. the prices are basic prices for what they get."

"Beautiful Chinese restaurant that also makes take. it doesn't look great from outside, but inside it's good. eating and service are good for a Chinese restaurant with medium size. the menu is quite extensive and all the dishes we had were nice."

"Do you like home made pies, pasties, sausage rolls and other pastries? If you do, give this place a go. I had a sausage roll and chicken spinach pastie. Both were delicious. The Mrs sank a coffee and gave it a big thumbs up. There are plenty of sweets to try as well. There is also plenty of seating if you want to dine in. So if you like supporting local business, please consider!"
