"Recommended by local hotel. Visited to make reservation and look at restaurant and menu. Came away having booked for later wondering if we had chosen somewhere too Michelin and too expensive. Wrong. It was excellent. The food is special. You need an inkling of French but with a little help it was very manageable Exquisite is the right word. We chose the 32.50 euro menu for 3 courses plus an apetizer. We were persuaded to try the specials which were excellent. We had a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc a glass of red wine plus mineral water and chose one cheese at slightly extra cost. Total bill 96 euros. Truly truly superb. Lovely setting half full on Thursday great service beautifully done. This is a must visit restaurant if you are in Saintes. No doubt"

"We stayed one night at the hotel on the way through France. We booked in the restaurant because we had to arrive later in the evening. The restaurant was very clean and nicely furnished, but we were the only ones in there... so there was no atmosphere. We wanted a 3-course menu, so chose the 37 Euro 'Gourmand' menu so had high expectations. The food was very simple and not really what we expected. The starter was 4 cooked shrimps with sweet chili dressing on a small side salad. The main was a entrecôte steak with 4 chips and salad leaves, no sauce. The desert was average. We eat in France and Spain a lot while on holiday and felt that this was a bad value for money with very little know-how in preparing or presenting the food. 20 euros would have been more fair. The steak was delicious and well cooked, but over promised and delivered for the price."
