"The minute I walked into The Old Curiosity Bookshop and Tearoom, I had a strong sense that I was walking into a place that is truly loved. I found it to be a veritable Aladdin's cave. Everywhere you look, on the walls, the multitude of...shelves selling local crafts, not to mention the bookshop, there was a treasure to be found. The cakes were hard to resist and I disgracefully indulged myself in a cream tea. The owner, Teena made everybody feel at home. I left with an armful at books, and the best part was everything was reasonably priced. I'm not from the Leicestershire area, but the Old Curiosity Bookshop and Tearoom is a good enough reason for me to return to the area again and again."

"I bought a last minute Living Social deal for my daughters birthday. On arrival the frontage is nice and the receptionist was welcoming. However fast forward to the afternoon tea and it all falls apart. The waiter asked what drinks we would like after being shown to our table. That was the only interaction we had. He plonked our drinks and offerings on the table and there was nothing more until another couple came and he did the same with them. Our table cloth was stained as was my daughter’s cup. The selection we were given were a few triangular sandwiches with a shadow of filling, the only ones with ample filing were the cheese but they were dry and tasteless. Three cakes each a very nice brownie which was the highlight, a small shop bought macaron and a dry piece of carrot cake and half a strawberry. The scones were awful!! Mine was crumbly and dry which I thought was bad enough but my daughter’s was actually crispy!!! When cut it split like a biscuit! I would have complained but my daughter didn’t want a fuss. The whole place could do with a good clean, including the waiter’s uniform which was stained. There were dead flies all over the display stands and a big dead bee in the middle of the conservatory which is very visible on a white tiled floor and yet nobody moved it. On the way out we used the toilet in the reception area. It is not a big reception area and yet not the receptionist nor the waiter who served us looked up when we left which I can only guess is because they were both too embarrassed to ask how our visit was as they already knew the answer. Avoid!!!!"

"Last minute decision to treat us to an breakfast. baxter’s tearoom online found on the day before and perfect decision. cordial staff, good portions and made fresh. Pastel decoration to give a classic and soothing look. would definitely recommend."

"I visited Grill House last week. We all ordered juices, all for them natural and delicious. I ordered lamb chops and they were utterly delicious. The pre starter lentils soup was glorious. The flat bread and the baba ganoush delicious. Highly recommend."

"The worst chicken donner kebab i have had...chunky no taste,cold.i was hungry for 10 long hours just wanted something to eat seen this place and ordered with my mate.as an Asian person i know what i got and i threw it in the bin.attitude of the guy was not nice at all.dont go here as i got told other places are decent"
