"Finally got my opportunity to try this place out the other day when in the area at lunchtime. Restaurants that waste little time seating you and getting good food to the table are always a keeper in my book. This certainly is the case as it pertains to Richard 's Mexican Restaurant on Menaul. When I walked in, I was graciously greeted by the cashier and guided to a table by my server. Chips and salsa were complimentary and as they usually do, made for a stratifying appetizer. For lunch, I decided to try the intriguingly titled low carb meal . Which came served with my choice of beef or chicken and a flour tortilla. Despite possessing a marginally ambiguous name. The low carb meal is essentially beef (or chicken) mixed in with scrambled eggs and topped with shredded cheese. Chopped lettuce, tomatoes, and guacamole are also included on the platter and complements the heartiness of the protein jumble that sits below it. Although I felt that the portion size could have been a bit larger, Richard 's nonetheless delivered. The food was good, and the service was more than satisfactory. I 'm definitely eager to try out more menu items in the near future. Just be forewarned before you plan of visiting, that Richard 's is only open until 3 pm."

"This IS the best NM restaurant there is! Everything is fresh, great-tasting and the sopaipillas are just like grandma made! I have lived here all 49 of my years, and there is nothing that compares or very few (Barelas, Duran's Station come to mind)"

"They were a little busy when I showed up around 9. The what I'm guessing was the owner was very apologetic. I know sometimes things get hectic. We ordered the quesibirrias and oh my lawdy lawd! Amazing. Great price for what you get. Lots of meat and you get 4 tacos. The consome was delicious.a little spicy but man it's good. Me and the family are definitely coming back on our next trip."

"They have got to have the best sopapillas in town, and the food is hard to beat as well. This was our last stop in town and I wish it would have been our first. The guacamole was probably the best I ever had as well. Just a great experience and a must-stop while visiting Albuquerque."

"Absolutely the best beef burrito I've ever had! Quesadilla was served open faced (which was weird, but my son loved it and I know I will have to serve them to him this way from now on). Fresh chips and salsa, reasonable drink prices, and healthy servings. Rice and beans were outstanding too! My dinner came with a basket of sopapillas and those were a HIT! Douse those bad boys in honey and DEVOUR! Staff came up regularly to chat and mingle... And made recommendations for what to get. If you want family style New Mexican food with TONS of flavor, do not miss out on this place! Side Note this place is CASH only. There is weird little red ATM box out front that is empty, so I had to end up running to a gas station to get enough to cover the meal and tip. Even with that, I'd do it the same a hundred times over. Absolutely fantastic!!!"

"I can 't comment on the food, when the waitress asked if idI like anything to drink, I ordered a beer, and was promptly asked for my ID. Ok, it 's New Mexico, no problem, I smiled and handed her my Driver 's Liscence. I was told sorry, this isn 't valid. Thereis a hole punched in it because I renewed my DL 10 days ago and haven 't yet received the new one in the mail. I asked what wasthe purpose of checking my ID, my age? The hostess took over at that point and told me No we 're checking to see if it 's valid . Okay, thanks, I 'll go. There wasn 't any kind of altercation, but I could sense some hostility in the hostess 's atitude. Even though I 'm half Mexican, and my hair is black, (actually dark grey anymore)I generally pass for white due to my lightcomplexion and blue eyes and in today 's modern culture, being white is sometimes viewed very negatively. Anyway, I 'm 57 yearsold and probably old enough to be her grandfather. I probably wouldn 't have written this if I 'd been treated a little kinder. I found another restaurant nearby and was treated very well, I had a beer with my meal and enjoyed it very much. Afterordering, I had some time to check on the laws concerning ID checks in NM. NM state code 60-7B-5 states that anestablishment shall refuse to sell or serve alcoholic beverages to any person who is unable to produce an ID card AS EVIDENCETHAT HE OR OR SHE IS 21 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER . As I see it, the purpose of checking ID 's is for determing that a person isold enough. At 57, I really can 't pass myself off as a 20 year old. Clearly, I 'm more than old enough to purchase a drink and mypicture ID proves that. She implied that age doesnt matter. Maybe she 's right. Maybe she 's wrong. Anyway, only one star from me.The hospitality leaves much to be desired."
