Tres Agaves is a great place for a few reasons: great food, good, friendly service, tasty margaritas (amazing tequila selection), and they stay open late—very important to this NYC-based late eater! If you have to wait for a table, amuse yourself by watching the bartenders make pitchers—they are serious about their margaritas! There’s a lively bar crowd, so you can skip dinner and duck in for drinks. But I recommend... View all feedback.

What SFFoodie dislikes about Tres Sf:
I may be biased because I believe that SOMA is becoming the stripmall of SF with cookie cutter aesthetics for financial district yuppies, but overall, I thought Tres Agaves was okay. I think the food was fine, but nothing to write home about. If I’m going to eat “upscale” Mexican food, I’d rather head to Maya or Majita in the Ferry Building. They messed up my order and by the time they remade my entree the other guests had already finished their meals. Ordered Spanish rice on the side and it was completely lacking flavor. The margarita was mostly ice

Four of us went on a Friday night so we expected it to see more people, but quiet evening was fine for us. Waiter was not familiar with several of the Tequila brands I inquired about, but not a big deal. Here are the deal breakers: We were served near-frozen guacamole, Tortillas for Tacos were rubbery and tasteless, Salsas, beans, rice were insipid, service rushed us on. Never again

This is not a taqueria but a nice restaurant. It’s Mexican with a twist. We arrived early and were treated like royalty. Can’t say that will be your experience but it was ours
