Experience at Sam's was a bit of a mixed bag. Some reviewers had a great time revisiting this piece of San Francisco history, enjoying the solid and fresh seafood in the old-school setting. However, others were disappointed by the rushed service, with one server even appearing impatient and pushy. The food received mixed reviews, with highlights being outstanding dishes like French onion soup and Clams Elizabeth, and low points including dry elk and sticky fettuccine alfredo. Overall, the ambiance of the restaurant was praised, but the service and food quality left something to be desired for some diners.

We had an amazing time at the restaurant! Bella took great care of us and even suggested we try the scallops.

Established in 1867 (although not in its original location), this restaurant exudes old-school charm. It offers the kind of hearty meals that someone like Sinatra would have enjoyed.

We have been coming here for years (if we are still living in SF) and recently visited with a group of friends. There were six of us in total and we began our meal.

Dinner at Sam's was the highlight of our vacation. All of the food selections were excellent. My personal favorite, Clams Elizabeth, was as good as i remembered from a dinner here over 40 years ago. The dining room was sufficiently quiet one could have a conversation over dinner without shouting,

Sam’s Grill is the 5th oldest restaurant in the United States (not just SF) and a classic, woody-goody with curtained booths for those who want privacy. Our waiter, Angelo, took great care of us during our almost 2 hour lunch and the food was amazing! After a vodka martini with sourdough bread, we started with wedge salads, had calamari steak with capers and Rex Sole, then Crepe Suzette’s for dessert. Can’t wait to return soon!
