Deborah is a fantastic host; accommodating, friendly and sociable. The small tea room attached is a nice added touch, and in tune with other reviews, I can attest that the decor definitely is unique and pays homage to it's English theme.Port Hope is a lovely little town to visit, and this is certainly a great place to stay while visiting. Tea rooms are my favourite. This one is ordinary. The sandwiches were so thin with a single slice of ham, and a smearing of bland egg salad. But what was really upsetting was the high handed manner in which the chef and owner spoke to...other guests when one fellow said he didn’t eat ham. The arrogant reply was “then just eat around it”. That’s not how you share an afternoon tea. The fellow was obviously taken aback and then there was discussion at his table amongst his friends. He then went to find the owners to tell them how upset he was with the way he was spoken to. That conversation was minutes of discussion for all in the tea room to overhear. Arguing with the guest of their high standard. The result was a few little triangles of egg and tuna salad sandwiches to appease him. Should have done that at the very beginning. Easy and hardly a cost considering the puny sandwiches on wonderbread offered. I’ve been monitoring TripAdvisor ever since to see if that fellow would leave a review so I could commend his challenge to the owner. I haven’t done a TripAdvisor review in years but I felt this one was necessary. Such an arrogant attitude for such an ordinary tea room. If you want a proper tea room go to the Bray Robinson Tea Room in Streetsville, Ontario. We had a beautiful afternoon tea today that was a wonderful standard and all homemade. Beautifully presented and all the staff were professional and friendly. Summerhill should do a road trip to see what a proper tea room does.
For a long time I wanted to stop in for tea at Summerhill Manor. Finally, for my birthday I took the time and stopped in. My experience was wonderful...from the food to the staff. The food was dainty and fresh. Absolutely lovely! I didn't want...to leave.
Food is simple but very fresh. Service a bit slow but friendly. Loved the teacups and old lace atmosphere!
Stayed here for two nights while visiting family in the area; our room was comfortable and the bathroom clean and well supplied. On the second evening we enjoyed some quiet time with a glass of wine (glasses promptly provided at our request) in the comfortable...guest common room on the main floor. Breakfasts were superior and beautifully presented and the coffee was excellent!
Very accommodating. We had to check in late, and were able to upgrade our very quaint room. Chef Ron got up early to make breakfast and see us off. We felt very spoiled.
