What Lila Swift doesn't like about The Squires Maiden:
I've been a fan of the James Squire craft beers for a while now. I know that they're just another brand of the Lion conglomerate, but nevertheless good. There are a number of these company themed venues around Australia and most are very good. This one was also good, without being great. I have visited this place twice before heading to Hunter Stadium for sporting eventsIt's really nice on a sunny day and not so bad on a **** one.
SeriouslyYumIt's a casual outdoor restaurant with simple well designed dark semi-industrial style.
A newcomer to the Newcaste Wharf restaurant district, the Maiden has a pretty good feel with indoor and out door seating, and a bit of a view to the water
Spent two nights eating here and the food was very good. The Chook Thief burger was really good but the Schnitty wasn't anything out of the ordinary and the pepper sauce had a very strange tang to it. A great selection of beers and my favourite 150 Lashes. The beer with mint (can't remember the name) was okay but I wouldn't have that as an all nighter. I think it would be a good dessert beer with a chocolate dish. The staff are very friendly and available to help with any queries you have about their food or beers. I'll be back the next time I'm in Newcastle.
Great venue for a lunch. Busy place though suggest booking. Great music. Great food. Salmon skewers and salt and pepper squid are great starters.
