Restaurant had been recommended and was very nice. The quantity of food was almost over facing with all the side dishes. The food is traditional Portuguese and probably not so child friendly. The staff have a limited knowledge of English but the chef, and owner, speaks French. Very nice. View all feedback.

What Hugo Moura dislikes about O Gato:
Although highly recommended it was a disappointing experience overall . Food nice in the restaurant but the front bar is 100% smoking and uncomfortable. (Even for a smoker like me).Restaurant felt like sitting in a truckers cafe with plenty of fluorescent lighting and a 1970s big box TV on a shelf. 100% unatmospheric and bland. Staff have no apparent formal training and change regularly from what I gleaned. Dinner wa... View all feedback.

Typical Portuguese restaraunt , but fantastic value .We went for lunch and didn't need anything for dinner !Great grilled pork and Trout was delicious. Side dishes of rice , potatoes , cabbage etc etc are ridiculously large and we ordered half measures . Bottle of house white was €4.50 ...erm really ? Very helpful staff who tried hard to understand my miserable attempt at Portuguese , but we got there .Go there very hungry , it's great .

The town of Lousã sits at the foot of a range of hills with the same name. The Serra da Lousã is very popular with hikers and mountain bikers. Maybe that is what inspires the portions at the "Gato". Have a meal there, and you are more than able to climb any mountain. Except that you might feel a bit drowsy after the meal. Steaks, meat skewers, and other meat dishes are not only delicious, but served in large amounts. We had a 1/2 portion of brazilian style cut steak,(maminha) and a 1/2 portion of meat on a skewer (espetada, one of the best I have ever eaten)), and were unable to finish either one. We didn't choose the side dishes, they just kept on coming - chips, salad, rice, cabbage and beans. All this, plus 4 beers, water, bread, olives, coffee and a pear (yes, pear!)brandy for 21,60€.

Dinner was ordered using hand and arm signals for chicken and fish!Does not accept non-Portuguese cards so embarrassing at the till if you don't have €€€€ on you. Would go again if nowhere else open, but not rushing back. GnT was however spectacular! !
