Contribute FeedbackMetro Restaurant in Kitchener serves up generous portions of delicious European cuisine. Despite the occasional mishap with missing ingredients or inconsistent quality, the overall experience seems to be pleasant for most diners. The schnitzel is a standout dish, with many praising the flavors and portion sizes. The restaurant has a cozy ambiance and attentive service. Overall, Metro may not be without its flaws, but its hearty meals and welcoming atmosphere make it a solid choice for those craving European fare in the area.
We haven't had a bad schnitzel here yet. We keep on going back. Portion size are huge. And the prices are $15 to $25 for a meal on average. Now the negative, seating and tables are run down. Décor is very dated. Try to get a seat in the back room with the skylights. Its better seating there in the back. Service is always good for us.
Went here on a recommendation from a friend. Not berg good. Schnitzel was over cooked and very dry and tough. Potatoes were burnt on one side and not cooked on the other. Spaetzel was horrible....very dry, mushy and completely tasteless. Cabbage rolls were mushy. Imitation bacon bits in the Caesar salad. The braised red cabbage and the garlic bread were the best part of the whole meal. Menu advertises non alcoholic beer, but didn't have any plusno tonic fir a mixed drink.Server was pleasant. If you don't care about the quality then go for it as there was plenty. WILL NOT GO BACK THERE AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
The good: Caesar salad is wonderful. Service was very good. The sauerkraut was very tasty. The schnitzel was just ok, on the dry side. There are better schnitzels around in KW . The perogies and cabbage rolls are different than the norm but fairly tasty
There will come a day when you simply can't bear another entree topped with arugula pesto and shaved fou-fou mushrooms. And when that day comes, you could do worse than this venerable schnitzel house. Sure the floor is sticky, the lighting is hideous, and the waitress is terrifying (and may spill silverware in your lap while clearing the table). And yes, the food isn't even all that great when it arrives (limp home fries, bottled salad dressings, durably coated schnitzel), but you won't care. The house beer (a gorgeous ice-cold Czech pilsner) is delicious, the tacky decor is weirdly comforting, and the prices are reasonable. An excellent choice if you have a bunch of hungry young men to feed, but maybe give it a miss on a romantic first date.
Went here with a party of 8 at 6:30 on a Saturday. We had called to make a reservation a fews days before but surprisingly they don't take reservations after 5:30. That was a surprise. So after a bit of a wait we were seated. Everyone agreed that the food was excellent. My wife and I ordered the dinner for 2 which includes 4 schnitzels. We had sufficient take home for 2 more meals! You must not be in a rush when you go here because the prep time takes a little longer. It is even posted that each one is done individually, so be patient. Overall a great dining experience and the Metro has been a local icon, serving the best schnitzel in an area with a high German population. They have won many awards for their cuisine. Not too pricey either.
