chalkboard. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service made me feel nostalgic for simpler times. The food was delicious and the pies were a highlight of the meal. It was a delightful experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a taste of the past.
What Margaretta Anderson doesn't like about Whistle Stop Cafe:
The only thing that stood out about this restaurant for us was the fact that it was in a train. My husband is a huge fan of trains so he was in his element, but that was about it! We were passing through High River at lunchtime and searched the Trip Advisor app for a place to eat and found the Whistle Stop. The highlight for me was breakfast at lunch, which I will never pass up because I eat off the gluten free menu (of which there was NOT here) so eggs and bacon are pretty safe. The dessert menu was huge and I imagine that's what a lot of people come for :)
Always happy with what i am served. 2 kinds of homemade soup- varies each day. wonderful deserts & endless possibilities for main course. limited seating- reserve? breakfast & lunch only.
Nice setting and atmosphere. Served fast and politely. Food was good but little different than I was used to. Would go again but order differently probably.
Unique Lunch stop ... experience a small piece of history ... cozy and quaint ... good food and service with a smile! :)
I was in town for business and a local colleague took me to lunch at the Whistle Stop. It is a refurbished old train car that they have turned into a quaint diner, right in "downtown" High River. My soup and sandwich tasted homemade and were very fresh. The service was good and the bill was reasonable. I would go back.
