Zen Restaurant - Halifax

I used to like this place but the food has gone downhill. I went back a second time after I realized the food was not so good but was again disappointed. It just does not seem like it is cooked fresh - if it is it is not cooked by the same chef.

I used to go to Zen all of the time for my Chinese food needs. It has been awhile but I tried ti again today because ti is under new management. I stopped going in the past because the food had gone so far downhill. I stopped in to get a lunch special to take home. I ordered the fried rice with soo guy and an egg roll. Not a bad price. $10.55 plus tip and it was quick to get ready. The rice was okay. Quite dry and burnt in some spots. The soo guy was not good at all. It was very overcooked. Chipped chicken comes to mind. Little to no almonds on it and the gravy was a greasy bomb. It was all grease on the top. I tried stirring it and nothing helped. The egg roll looked the filling went through a food processor. It was a awful pasty thing. In all, I won't be back. The standards it had years ago are gone. Try Chinatown for decent Chinese fare.

I ate at Zen a lot in the past but it's been a while.The eggroll was good though and bit thin.The thai cashew chicken was bland - definitely not thai inspiredThe bowl with chicken, cashews and veggies was basically a bowl of onionsService was nice and freindly.

This is one of two Chinese restaurants I go to if I want a Chinese food fix for lunch. The food and service is alway good and it is never very busy. I think most of their business is takeout. Give it a try and see what you think.

Dropped in for lunch. Had rice eggroll and honey garlic ribs. Some of the best ribs I have in awhile. Very meaty and tasty. We also had lemon chicken with curry noodles. Chicken very good although sauce a little too sweet. Service was fast and friendly.
