Their beesting is the best I have tasted for many decades. My mother was German and I still fondly remember her making it in her younger years. This beesting was just as good. I also had a steak and kidney pie and it was one of the meatiest and tasty one I have had. Unlike most other bakeries they did not skimp on the kidneys. Service was friendly and efficient. What User dislikes about The German Cake Shop:
My friend and I both had a chicken and avocado sandwich and both sandwiches contained chicken bones. When we told the staff they just said " sorry about that" and walked off. The owner at that point was nowhere to be seen. Best practise would have been to refund our money. View all feedback.
Friendly service.Lots of seating optionsRelaxed atmosphere lots of knick knacks around the walls.Good hot drinks and tasty treats.Had the cherry strudel.apple studel and donut pretzel yummmm
So it’s a kinda daggy, old fashioned type place. But sometimes if you want the authentic, honest food then this is how it comes. I love this bakery, great pastries and breads. I’ve not eaten here, not had coffee as I suspect it would disappoint. The owner may seem a little gruff but I’ve had many a chat with him about current affairs and whatnot, I guess I also like it when you get a good human interaction like that in a small village. <br/ <br/ For us the star is, are, the strudels. We ate far too many in our first years in the Hills, we also would take one interstate for people who don’t have such amazing bakeries *coughbrisbanesydney* at first we stayed safe with the apple and poppy but the winner is the sour cherry. Best pastry shop i have ever been to. I had a chicken pie, apple strudel and a mocha. The pastry used was so thick and crispy, tasted so good. Mocha was well balanced. A must visit wen visiting handorf
Nice atmosphere at this place with all the decorations, clocks etc. Had the poppyseed strudel which was very nice. Let down in the coffee department however.
My husband ordered a sausage, which he enjoyed. I tried it as well and was impressed. However, my Chicken and Avocado croissant was disappointing. The chicken was dry, the avocado was brown, and the croissant was slightly overcooked. Despite avocado and croissants being easy to ruin, the dry chicken overshadowed everything. On the bright side, I ordered a cherry custard strudel for dessert and it was amazing. The cherry filling was delicious and not overly sweet. The pastry was perfectly balanced with the filling, and the vanilla cream was a nice touch. The waitstaff in the dining area were friendly and helpful. However, the front counter seemed chaotic and disorganized, which left a negative impression. The Manager appeared to be doing his best but may benefit from delegating tasks and not trying to control every aspect of the restaurant. Overall, I recommend enjoying the traditional German food at this restaurant and not worrying about the minor issues.
