Happy Days 50's Diner - Grand Forks

We stop through Grand Forks frequently on bike trips and decided to finally give this place a go. The feel of the room is cool... a reminder of the good old days with some cool old nostalgic pieces on display and the waitress' poodle skirt etc. We sat at the counter and ordered a burger to share and a side of coleslaw and a milkshake. The milkshake was good the view of the old filthy grill etc... not so much. When the cook dropped off the burger we asked if it could be cut in half... begrudgingly said he'd get us a knife... then the other lady who appeared to be also having a bad day pushed a large bowl and said the cutlery was in there, suggesting we cut a burger with a butter knife I guess. The coleslaw tasted like month old cabbage that had been soaking in vinegar for another month. Hopefully the 'for sale' sign in the window will be taken advantage of, and a fresh owner will be able to give this place the potential it deserves. We'll come back after that and try again.

A great place to have a simple, hearty breakfast at a decent price. This place is quaint and cute. The waitress wore a poodle skirt! The food was good, if a bit greasy. The service was pretty quick. The space is very large and open.

You step in the door and you walk back in time. To a nice time, where the omelets were big and you cared nothing about trans fats or calories. Where the toast was buttered and you did not ask if it was gluten free. Where the bacon was crisp and you ate it without complaining. You sit down, and you drink Cherry Coke and you close your eyes, and you are back in a world that is just about having fun. And on your way out, buy the awesome hot sauce that they make on premises. I have to say the food was good. Service was friendly. It's a small place, which is probably a good thing as I don't think they can really handle having more tables or booths It took almost an hour to get our food. I actually went up to the counter and asked if they had forgotten about us, as people that came in after us were served their food before us. And they were a table of four, and we were only two. One of the waitresses tried to explain to us how a kitchen works and why it was taking long......im sorry. We were there and had ordered before these people came in. It was a club sandwich and bacon and eggs. I've talked to some of the locals and they all complain about the slow service. It's unfortunate. Cute place and great food. They would do better if the kitchen was organized.

The restaurant had a charming interior and the waitress was friendly. However, the food took a long time to be prepared, over 35 minutes for sausage and eggs. When it finally arrived, it was disappointing as the potatoes were hard and the eggs were undercooked.
