Bistro Rex - ELIZABETH BAY

The ambiance is nice and the staff is very friendly, but the relationship price / quality just kills it for me. The tartare beef with tasteless grain "chips" just for the sake of feeding calories. The steak is very bland even though the cafe de Paris sauce tries to make up for it. Very expensive for very average food. Wouldn't come back

C'est magnifique! Where to start... The fit-out is worth every penny paid and the tables and their arrangement are designed perfectly to make it a comfortable dining experience, wherever you are seated. Everything Missy French got so wrong, Bistro Rex does so right! The co-owners, who seem numerous, are all divine and the wine list is uncomplicated and regionally diverse, not attempting to be too fancy in most places but you can get carried away too if you are in the mood. The menu is flawless. Begnets are on the menu for goodness sake! Thank you. Steak Frittes was unrushed and cooked extremely well. The steak has few contenders in Sydney in my opinion, being the two other French bistros in town and of course Rockpool B&G and The Cut. Have had it rare and medium and both were exceptional. Blue Eyed Cod should be on the menu permanently but it's great to have an excuse to eat more steak frittes!

A posh place that did not hold to my expectations,  the Zucchini tomato salad had stale tomatoes , the pizza on a puff type pastry was way too salty , good for a Spanish bar where you go to sink beers. The prawn croquettes where too simple , steak was ok . Cocktails where ok but then you could not order a classic like an old fashion

Best fish cakes ever! Plus the Corpse Reviver 2 was delicious. Wonderful, attentive but discreet service. Not cheap, but then quality rarely is

Had a lovely dinner with some friends and couldn't be happier with the experience. The food was divine, delicious cocktails and great service. Loved the design of the restaurant too, big open layout and great decor. Will definitely be back!
