Arrived for lunch and sat down at an available table as there were no signs to say “wait to be seated” Owner or manager had an absolute hissy fit and screamed at us asking if we had a booking We said no but we could wait if needed…he gestured violently for us to leave and yelled at us in Italian…..never seen anything like it before…he was so rude. My wife and I always stop by this place several times while in Cortona. Generally breakfast and afternoon drinks. Friendly service and lots of outdoor seating.

"An absolutely fantastic dining experience. Each dish had something special in their flavors that really elevated the dishes. The tartare with pecorino cream was amazing, we also enjoyed the eggplant parmesan. We let the waiter help us with the entrees and wine selection and he did an excellent job. We also really enjoyed the desserts. The tiramisu was a unique twist that was really good and the chocolate cake was beautiful to see and delicious to eat. The location really felt like you were being transported back in time. It's no wonder this place has a wall of awards, they are well deserved!"

"There are some places in the world to which you are destined to return. on the suggestion of a former student it was studying in Florence I took a day trip to Cortona over 20 years ago. By chance we happen to the small passageway where this jewel is. we ask the waiter to simply bring us things that we should eat. On that hot June afternoon, we tagliatelle with tartufo, Bianco and ravioli gundi. we ask him to bring us something simple for dessert. He placed a glass dish full of tiny, wild strawberries in front of us. Sprinkle to scan state of sugar of the top and squeezed fresh lemon on top. At that moment, I understood place and taste as being inseparable. When people have asked me, and then you’re following the best thing I’ve ever eaten I have referred to that meal. In all the years following, I brought mini forward students and friends to Cortona. And the first dinner that we share is at La Grotta. On this visit, I said, at the same table like that, at the first time, just outside the door. I ordered the same thing I always order. I offered to taste my friends, and they, too agreed that it is quite simply one of the most perfect and simple things you can eat. we enjoyed many other things but that dish will always to me represent culture and history and beauty. The impact of that deal so many years ago and the ones falling is great enough that I wear a bracelet that has the coordinates for that very spot. I guess you could say I am a true fan of this place."
