Not the first time I've been there never changed, prices ridiculous about £5 a pint, everywhere else about £3

Unfortunately we didn’t actually get there but were charged £165 for the night anyway. We were due to stay for our anniversary but my husband’s mum was moved to end of life care so had to cancel. Sadly for us, we missed the 48 hour notice by 2 hours we phoned as soon as we knew but our request to move the booking was flatly refused and we were told we would be charged regardless, which we were. My mother in law passed away shortly afterwards and I can honestly say, the lack of compassion, understanding and flexibility was astounding. We go to Chester every year for our anniversary but won’t ever book here again. I understand that business is business but under circumstances like this, there really is no excuse for such a heartless way to run it. One star because I had to to enable the review to be submitted.

Just had a drink. Old pub. Expensive. Music is too loud.

Only had food here. The food was ok but very basic .. I had Hunters chicken with jacket potato .. I can 't understand why, as a business, they can 't add a small side salad or some veg to pretty the dish up Husband and the steak and ale pie and the buttered veg was about 4 green beans, so it was a bit of a letdown for the food .. flavours were nice but wouldn 't go back for food in there again .. we like the pub itself, service is always warm welcoming and wouldn 't hesitate to call in for a drink .. It 's especially lovely Christmas time in there if you 're ever there for the Christmas markets.

Beautiful little restaurant, a must stop if you are pub hopping.

The reviews for this restaurant and hotel in Chester are mixed. While some guests praised the food quality, service, and historical charm of the place, others were disappointed with the cleanliness, noise levels, and overall value for money. The restaurant was described as a tourist trap with high prices, while the hotel rooms received complaints about small size, lack of amenities, and noise levels. Overall, the staff were friendly and accommodating, but the mixed reviews indicate that some improvements may be needed in order to provide a consistently positive experience for guests.

How had I not reviewed this cosy pub/hotel after I came here on my last visit to Chester? This is the home of the Pied Bull brewery and I very much enjoyed

This used to be our favourite pub in Chester, and we have stayed here twice. However we 've been out of the country and thus not been here since 2019. It is not the same. Went for an evening meal. Beer (brewed on site and admittedly very good was £5.50 per pint which is about £1.20 £1.30 over the odds for this part of the country. Very limited menu with fish and chips at £17.95 (again ridiculous price locally . We had decided to 'suck it up ' (we had booked, after all but then they told they 'd run out of chips! How can a pub run out of chips? Admittedly manager(? was politely apologetic. It 's a city cente pub and was very quiet at 8pm on a Tuesday evening no surprise. A place to be avoided until they improve their menu and drop their prices by 20 30

Tourist trap. You will pay over the odds for a meal or a pint in this Oak Beamed Hotel. Lunch menu £17.95 for a single course and £5.50 for a pint of John Smith's Bitter. Locals seem to avoid the place as other premises are a lot cheaper. The choice is yours.

Booked a night here as we were visiting Chester to go to a show at the Storyhouse theatre. Didn’t realise how close it was! Lovely quirky and authentic inn. Loved the slightly creaky floorboard and slanting stairs all adds to the quirkiness. Will certainly stay here again.

What a great place would highly recommend we had a Sunday roast we hadn't booked but they found us somewhere, the food was amazing and the service was great, we also booked a room early in the year but had to leave after only 30 mins one of our children were ill, I contacted them to see if there would be anything they could do as we had just paid for the room. Again nothing was to much trouble I spoke to one of the guys and they revoked us in for my birthday in December free of charge as a good will gesture, I can't wait to stay and try more beautiful meals and beer 5 star

Such a shame as stayed here previously couple year ago and had a lovely stay but this time was disappointing room was tiny, tv was tiny, no iron in room, there was a dirty cup, water in kettle, stained pillowcase, hair clump on carpet, not a comfortable pleasant stay. Love the convenience of the place being in town centre but have definitely been put off by this stay

The meal as always was fantastic, tasty and beautifully cooked starters and main course. Desert was cool of course. Beer as always was very tasty. This time we were placed on a table that wasn't very well lit in all honesty. It was positioned in a place tthat was used as a throughfare by people. They were actually quite close and this made me feel uncomfortable. Would it possible to screen off this section so people have to walk round rathe than cutting through please? This spoiled a little bit what otherwise would have been an excellent meal and I would still eat here again (having eaten here many times previously). Were I offered this table again as it currenttly is I would ask if we could sit somewhere else.

The Cheeseburger and Onion Rings at The Pied Bull were fantastic! I highly recommend this place for traditional pub fare.
