The food is flavorful and the menu offers a wide variety of options, with standout dishes like the chicken biryani and butter chicken. The staff is attentive and the atmosphere is pleasant, making it a great choice for lunch or dinner. I only look for restaurants that have high good reviews on TA. Despite that, we had just attended a convention at the Saddledome and wanted something nearby before heading home. It was a tad hard to find as the access is off the cross street, not actually on 11th Ave, but we did find it. Nice cozy place. The server indicated that her husband was the chef. The 5 of us had butter chicken, coconut rice, garlic naan, lamb curry, and beef jalfrezi. The flavours were intense, amazing, and even the medium spice was not too much to burn away the flavour. Service was awesome! It wasn't too busy when we first got there around 6:30, but after a while a 3 more tables showed up and lots of take out orders. We live out of town but our next time we come to Calgary, we will try the lunch buffet! For our bill for 3, we had one ice tea, and the total bill came to just under $60, and we took leftovers home.
This is a gem of a restaurant, tucked away in the belt-line area of Calgary. My wife and I chose to dine at Masala Mantra to celebrate our wedding anniversary after reading the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor. We were not disappointed, in fact we would say this was the best Indian cuisine we have sampled in Calgary. Delicious food with choice of level of spiciness, excellent attentive service, and a pleasant atmosphere combined with the very reasonable pricing made this an occasion to remember. Our evening was made complete with the hosts offering us a complimentary sweet treat to help celebrate our anniversary. Will definitely be returning!
I went to Masala Mantra a couple of years ago because it happened to be close by and can't stop going back =) I love their chicken biryani. And if you'd like it extra spicy, just ask and you won't be disappointed! Enjoy =D
Very good curry for price. Its portion sizes are big so one curry can certainly feed two if not three people. The garlic naan bread was very average and oily so wouldn't recommend. Overall a nice dinner and you can get take away here too!
Great vegetarian pakora, and thoughtfully the vegetarian section on the menu is clear. Excellent daal makhani, the yellow dal tadka less flavourful. Kadhai paneer was altered so the sauce was more creamy to my liking. Coconut rice very aromatic, and the garlic naan was light and tasty. Very friendly!
