View all feedback.

Dessert: Red Bean Donut Japanese style soft sweet donut filled with red bean paste. Hi Genki is one of the my favorite Japanese restaurant in Burnaby. It is specialized in homestyle Japanese eats. This restaurant is located inside Nikkei Home, a place where they offer hospitality and assistant services for Seniors. After 20 years serving the residents and the community, they have decided to shut their door at the end of month. They are currently doing takeout only. I loved all of the dishes! I recommend getting their Spicy Karaage Donburi if you are going there for the first time. Their spicy and sweet sauce is so unique. They are glazed on top of chicken karaage (fried chicken . The bed of rice absorbed some of their sauce and made it so delicious! LOVED THEIR RICE! The rice was so fluffy! Also, I loved all the panko crusted fried items as well! So crunchy yet not oily! A meal is not complete without dessert :P, the donut was a perfect ending to the meal, so light and fluffy. : The anko (smooth red bean paste is not too sweet too. The restaurant will be closing on April 30th and will be leaving Nikkei Home at the end July. Although, they do mentioned that they hope to serve more of their food, and will be a goodbye for now, I hope they will be able to serve more of their food soon! Also, will be missing their signature tempura ice cream with homemade strawberry sauce!
Finally got a chance to try this place for the first and last time. They are closing down at the end of the month, with the last day being the 30th. They are, and have been, take out only since covid. Which is a shame because I hear the inside is very homey and the food doesn't taste the best it can be when it's being trapped inside a takeout container. The prices here are VERY reasonable with each entree item being either $12 or $13. The portions are pretty fair as well. The red bean donut was actually my favourite out of everything I've tried. Soft and fluffy on the outside and perfect amount of red bean on the inside. Not too sweet either. Pro tip: you can only order via their website. Check the website the night before, after the restaurant has closed, you anticipate to order. Sometimes they will allow you to place a future order aka for the next day. You can even check the morning of, before they open. But be quick as orders fill very quickly and they will close their ordering if they get too busy. Check often. Pick ups are at their side door, to the right of the Suzuya Japanese market. Don't arrive early as your order will likely not be ready yet.
Last chance to try before they are closing down for good. Have the chance to get a take out since they are currently not doing any dine in. Everything reminds me the first time i came here for some japanese food. Time flies very fast and now they are going to close. I hope for the best for hi genki! Looking forward to getting their food again in the future. Recommended fast!!!!!
Amazingly good food considering that it's located in a senior home. If I end up in a senior home, I'll be delighted if there's a cafeteria this good. But, since I'm not in a senior home, this place is interesting but not something I'd go out of my way for. A lot of the dishes are breaded and fried and they bread things much more heavily than I'd like (especially for the karaage this place has the most heavily breaded karaage I've ever had) and the way they fry results in soft (as opposed to crispy) breading. That being said, this place is a good value for the money and I'll sometimes swing by if I'm driving past.
Horrible service but pretty good tasting food.Last time I came they took 40 minutes to give food and I found hair in my rice. While I was waiting for the food, they all seemed to be eating a staff meal which I didn’t mind but if they were going to do that I don’t understand why they’d accept us as dine-in customers? They then took 10 minutes to respond to me when I tried to tell them about it.
