"Sandburne was formerly the home of Donald Watson, founding father of The Vegan Society and his wife Dorothy and is now owned by Anthony Hazzard, Donald's son in law, who caters for vegans and vegetarians and those with added requirements like gluten free or allergies. Sandburne is just outside Keswick town centre, in a peaceful and quiet location, with plenty of parking and a bus stop nearby, if you do not want to drive or walk into town. There is a lovely garden surrounding the house and gorgeous views overlooking Keswick, with the mountains in the background. Guests are welcome to use the sitting/breakfast room, to listen to music or simply relax and enjoy the views. There is also a sitting area, at the top of stairs, with comfy seating, magazines and books to read and memorabilia about Donald, with photos and his nature diary dating back to 1929. We stayed in Revelin, a large twin room, again with fabulous views, a lovely seating area, plenty of room and everything you could want, including a modern bathroom with a powerful shower, a necessity after a long walk on the fells. You order cooked breakfast the night before, but you have a wide selection of cold buffet items too, including fresh squeezed orange juice, various cereals, fresh fruits, seeds and nuts, fruit compotes, yogurts, every kind of sauce, conserve and nut butters. The breakfasts are substantial, a perfect fuel for a day on the fells, using lovely fresh ingredients and a colourful picture on a plate, so you wanted to dive in and eat, the food was scrumptious. We loved Sandburne, Anthony is the perfect host, with a wealth of knowledge of the area and it was interesting to hear snippets about Donald and Dorothy too. I cannot recommend Sandburne highly enough, our stay was faultless and after a long walk, to return to the tranquil peace of Revelin was priceless. "Leser may wonder why I submitted the caffe, since all that it has for vegan to time is a date cut and soy milk. my argumentation was as follows. 1. The date slice is very delicious. 2. The date disk is very big! 3. the employees almost fall over themselves to help them run down, get soy milk and apologize because the small free cookies are not vegan. they really seem to want to give diners the best experience, so if more vegans appear there could be more supply for us. In others, there is a look at the falls from the rear window (although easily escaped by fire and condensation covered) and this is an interesting old building where they can buy all the outdoor equipment that can take up their wallet. a warning: pay attention to the open railings at the end of the middle floor; my mother leaned her goock against her and watched in frightening as it crashed through the gap and down on the floor, tightly missing innocent buyers."

"Great little mobile coffee shop owned by a friendly lady. The coffee is good (Illy- my favourite) and the home baked cookies are to die for! I loved the choice of plant based milks, especially the offerings of oat milk instead of just soya which is what you often get as a vegan/plant based alternative. It’s nice to have somewhere like this which is a little bit different to going and sitting in a cafe. The views are always delightful and it’s very dog friendly- in fact I think there are treats on offer for our furry friends as well! Updated from previous review on 2020-11-18"
