"Just five minutes walk from the train station, the Marmotte is worth a visit if you are in the mood for some solid baked fare. The bakery sells excellent home made bread (I especially like their Mütschli i.e. crispy white rolls), but you also have a choice of cheesy Swiss meals (Chässchnitte and the like), sandwiches, pies and a rather affordable lunch deal, all served in their sunny and bright tea room by an efficient and generally friendly staff.If you are there by yourself, there is always loads of reading material lying around, or you can just enjoy the view of the mountains."

"The place is beautiful, the terrace loveless, the service staff dressed like in a ski hut, unfortunately service robots, emotions and humorless, no demand like the food tasted. Value for money is not right. Products such as black walnut, Vadouvan or trout caviar on the menu alone are not enough. I expect a 13-point restaurant to refill the wine and to serve bread or toast with a tartare. The Pinot Grigio open 5 dl CHF 52.50 (on the menu 7.5 dl CHF 59.00). The four of us still had a nice evening, but I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. "We were staying in Kandersteg for the fifth time, and ate again on a couple of occasions during the week at Des Alpes. Initially we visited as a small group and on the second occasion as a group of 35 people. On both visits the...food was delivered together and was to a very high standard. It is amazing how they can produce such high quality food and with such good service. On the first visit I had the blue cheese burger followed by plum ice cream. Really nice. On the second occasion I had a calzone pizza and coffee ice cream. Again superb. A great restaurant where you can eat happily in a quiet corner as a couple or as a larger party."
