"Such a great experience! The owner was there and suggested sampler like platter...not on the menu so good! The also served cold cervezas (Stella included). Its just off the tourist beaten path and totally worth the 2 block hike! Such amazing food I can not...wait to go back!"

"We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning, I found it on yelp, I didn 't really know about this place before. It 's like a hispsters paradise. Everything is hip here, they serve dishes in pieces of wood, a mix of funky decor with 19th century-like things, even the mostly male waiters have a beard. Roble de raíz a la mesa, Oak, from root to your table , is within a small shopping center at the corner across the street from Ortega 's, mostly outdoors, it has a big tree, not an oak though, in the middle, which makes a great decorative motive. They have decent coffee, and they serve espresso and all varieties. Because of marine Southern Ca and northern Baja weather, it can be chilly sometimes, it is just a couple of blocks from the beach and as I said it is outdoors, there 's a small seating area in the cafeteria too. Expect a waiting line on weekends. The food: It 's actually excellent, I was pleasently surprised. Too bad they served our coffee cold (well, not hot enough), that 's why I didn 't give them 5 points. Also, one of my garnishes, which was great by the way, was cold too. But enough of complaints, I think the food is (overall) great. Portions are generous, huge in fact, if you 're really into this, some people do, not me, but I don 't mind it. And God they know how to cook! Yes!. Food is excellent. They are also a bakery so desserts are good. A big plus to this place (although only on weekends) is their live music, It is just a single musician, playing jazz, boleros and big band pieces, he 's an American expat, in his mid-50 's or early 60 's probably. Excelente! A few days later I tried this place for lunch, on a weekday, the place was deserted. Too bad (for them). Their lunch menu looks like something taken out of an American restaurant, like an Ihop. Salads, sandwiches, pastas and soups. Nothing else. But I really recommend this place for breakfast."
